Is it safe to take Fioricet if you are having anesthesia?
A friend of mine sometimes takes up to 4 fioricets a day for her All kinds of Headache. She will be having a colonoscopy so she will be having anesthesia. She often wakes up with All kinds of Headache and needs to take a Fioricet. Is that okay with the anesthesia??

There are losts of good answers, but the best answer:

I dont know about that. Cause one of the actives in Fioricet is Butalbital and that is a barbiturate, so mixing that plus an anesthetic which could likely be another barbiturate, even if it isnt a barbiturate it will still be some type of downer which could lead to respiratory problems.

Just a heads up,you may not want them to give you a drug called Versed

In fact, many people who use Versed for “conscious sedation” during a procedure are awake for the entire procedure but remember nothing, often believing they were “out” the whole time.

Versed (Midazolam) is an amnestic. It is commonly administered in combination with anesthesia before and during surgery. It is also commonly used for minor procedures like colonoscopies dental procedures like extractions, conscience sedation, twilight sleep, so that patients won’t remember pain and discomfort.HOWEVER THAT DOES NOT MEAN THAT THOSE SENSATIONS WILL NOT BE EXPERIENCED!!!!Forgetting does no mean it did not happen!! Amnesia does NOT take place for some patients.

IT’S NOT MY INTENTION FOR YOU TO NOT GET THE PROCEDURE DONE, JUST INFORMING YOU THAT YOU MAY WANT IT DONE WITH ANOTHER DRUG!!!!!
